As you may have heard The Clare 10k is ready to roll for it’s sixth year. 2011 will continue to offer the same event that the people of Clare have grown to love and we are calling anyone who hasn’t taken part yet to join us.
Taking place on Saturday, June 25, 2011, the event will start from Lees Road at 10am. The 10k course covers the rural and urban surrounds of the town of Ennis. If you’ve participated in previous years you’ll know to expect a fun filled, action packed morning. If you’re new to The Clare 10k, we would like to take this opportunity to welcome you along and encourage you to follow us here at www.clare10k.com, on Twitter @theclare10k, on Facebook at The Clare 10k 2011, or in the pages of The Clare People newspaper.
This year The Clare 10k is welcoming on board The Clare Sports Partnership. Through this link we hope to reach out to sports people all over the county and far beyond to inform them of the benefits of an active lifestyle and the enjoyment to be had from getting involved in events such as The Clare 10k.
The clock is ticking, so mark the date in your diaries and watch this space for regular updates.

Clare Haven Services

By | Clare Haven House | No Comments

Clare Haven Services is a voluntary organisation set up in 1993 to provide support, information and refuge accommodation to women and their children who are being abused in their own homes.

Clare Haven was set up by two women, Mary and Colette, who through their experiences recognised the need for a support agency, emergency accommodation and a more holistic approach to helping women and children experiencing domestic abuse in County Clare. At this time if a woman living in County Clare needed a safe place, she not only had to leave her home but the county also. Starting off with a donation from a friend Mary and Colette founded Clare Haven House. The demand for the service was so great, that Clare Haven quickly grew and with the help and support of many statutory agencies and voluntary and community groups, we were finally able to open our own refuge in 2002.

The refuge can accommodate up to six families and we also have two transitional houses where women and their families can move to from the refuge, before they are re-housed. Clare Haven Services also has a drop-in centre in Lifford in Ennis and provides outreach clinics around the county for women in rural areas to access our service.

Our Insights Educational Programme for women who have experienced Domestic Violence/Abuse will be commencing in Shannon and Ennis in the Autumn. This programme focusses on the woman herself and her power to make changes in her life. Further details may be had from our office at 065-6842646.

This is a twelve week, three hours per week educational programme for women who are, or have been in abusive relationships. The programme focusses on the woman herself and her ability to make important life changes. Its aim is to help her understand the problem of abuse and its realities for the entire family. It will also help her identify lifelong patterns of abuse, set realistic goals and learn new techniques towards self determined change.

What do I need to do before joining the Programme?
An informal meeting with the course facilitators is required to ascertain your suitability and readiness to undertake this kind of programme. This will also provide an opportunity for you to discuss your needs in person.

How much will it cost?
At present the cost of the Programme is being met by Clare Haven through its fundraising department. All training materials and refreshments will be provided free of charge.

If you would like to attend our next INSIGHTS programme or if you would like more information on this educational programme, further details can be had by calling 065-6842646.
