Is the race distance approved by the Athletics Association of Ireland?

Yes, the race is fully AAI approved. It is measured by Jones Counter, the official method of measurement as sanctioned by the Athletics Association of Ireland. This method has caused consternation in the past as it regularly differs from measurements taken by instruments with GPS measurement capabilities, such as Garmin watches. The Jones Counter measurement is sanctioned by both the AAI and the IAAF (International Athletics Association) and is therefore the official method of measurement for races across the world. As of yet, instruments with GPS capabilities are not sanctioned as official measurement tools and cannot be adhered to in the planning of a race route.
